with high definition television, does that mean we have to buy new televisions?

- not really, but the picture is much better! my parents have an hd reciever, and the picture is clear, but not perfect.... they have a regular tv. i have a high definetion television in my living room, and the picture is absolutely amazing!! and the extra money is worth it. if you can afford it, or are willing to spend a little extra, maybe a lot extra, your picture quality will improve amazingly!!
- No. Of course the picture is going to look better on a plasma, but you don't have to get a new TV to get HD.
- No, if you don't have money and yes, if you have money. It just a better version than a regular t.v.
- That, or get a converter. The signal will be something that a regular standard-definition tv cannot display, and will thus need to be converted into a format that it can display.
- If you want to truly appreciate high def broadcasting your regular tube t.v. isnt going to cut it. With high def you'll notice a depth a feild that didnt exist before. High def t.v.s have really been coming down in price. give it another year or so and there really wont be much of an excuse not to have one. (unless of course you still cling to your old b/w t.v. for its retro warmth)
- If you have an older analog TV, you will need a digital converter to watch digital cable. You will not need HD to get regular digital channels.
- If you aren't bothered about high definition then no you don't have to change. If you want it then yes you do.
- Well, not necessarily as you should be able to get a converter for CRT sets after the big switch is made in 2009. However, it's a much better idea to get a modern HD TV if you can.
- I'm not going to buy a hd tv until my current tv breaks
- if your current TV doesnt support HD (they usually have "HD Ready" or something similar, on them if they do), then yes, you will need to get a new TV.
- yes to receive hd you need a hd tv
- Here is some helpful information that will better help you understand the move to digital broadcasting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_tv
- No, it means that television advertisements will become frequent and convince viewers to buy more high definition televisions.
- No, you don't have to buy new TV's. When Congress ordered the change to HD, they knew that the billions of dollars to change all the TV's would not be easy for everyone. So, as part of the law, they also authorized the manufacture of low cost set-top converters so that regular TV's can still handle the new HD broadcasts. If you're using a TV antenna, it will still work after the big change-over. For people with cable or satellite TV, those providers are making extra money by charging for HD hookups. So regular TV's benefit by the normal technology in use today. That won't go away anytime soon. Eventually, though, everything will be commonly HD (in a few years) and then the cable/satellite providers will probably start charging a fairly small monthly fee for the set-top converters.
