High Definition is on a course to KILL local television stations.?
Bandwith, File size, file conversion, compatability issues, etc. etc. etc. From a television producers standpoint, working with High Definition is NOTHING but a pain in the @ss. It will cause soooooo many unrealized problems it is ridlicious. The price of the conversion alone will begin crippling television stations across America. The FCC may not, but you go tell that to 99% of GM's in this business. if you don't think HD is a MAJOR improvement over NTSC standard definition, then you obviously have not seen HD up close on a beautiful 42 inch 1080p television. My concern isn't the quality, its the cost of the quality, particularly the cost on the local markets. Do you realize that EVERYTHING will have to be changed. Commercials, News, Stock Footage, etc etc etc etc etc. Billions are going to be spent.

- I don't 'get' HD. It seems unnecessary; I can't even see that great of a difference in quality.
- They said the same thing when the "talkies" replaced silent movies. They said the same thing when color TV replace black and white. Sometimes changing over technology is a pain. People get too used to the old technology and resist the change but in the long run it was for the better.
- The FCC is not requiring conversion to HD, it is requiring conversion to digital over the air TV. People are naturally resistant to change, but in this case it is a great change. I have purchased a converter for use at work, and the digital signal can be really weak and still produce a dvd quality image. it is amazing.
- The local stations have had over a decade to prepare for this switch. They could have spread the cost out over that period. Some did and are doing just fine.
