Why do toddlers and infants love to watch TV commercials?
I observed this to my nephews and nieces everytime I watch TV with them. They even know that it is TV commercial time.
Public Comments
- Probably because most have upbeat music.
- Bright colors and subliminal advertising.
- When I saw this I had to answer right away. Mine toddler LOVES commercials. He does not watch the shows, but when the commercials come on he is front and center. He loves the Free Credit Report.com ones where the three men sing in a fish place. He really likes the ones with the Allstate Insurance man. I guess something about his voice. He also loves to watch the theme songs to TV shows. My son started to get really interested in the Yaz "Goodbye to You" birthcontrol commericals. Everytime it comes on he has to see it. We always laugh saying, "Oh you gotta keep up on the latest in your birthcontrol huh?!"
- They're short, usually colorful, and have music. For short attention spans, these are a perfect combination.
- Because commercials have catchy jingles, they're short, and they're usually visually appealing. Lots of bright colors. My mother told me that when I was little, I'd talk and talk during the show but make everyone be quiet during the commercials.
- Advertising executives get paid lots and lots of money to grab people's attention with their ads. My son does the same thing, and my mom told me that I did it too. Unfortunately, I guess what this means is that the media and advertising really ARE getting to all of us!
- my son is 15months old and loves "there aint no bugs on me"...lol...oh, now I can't get it out my head.
- Some of them have more cooler stuff than tv shows and they have music our animals our kids they just think its cool and its not that long
- Because their parents allow them to vegitate in front of the idiot box. My kids never showed an interest in commercials...but then they only get an hour of television time a day...
