Do you think the media portrays teenagers fairly?

I'm long past being a teen but feel that to some extent the media is unfare in it's portrayal of teens...in Austraia our current affairs type show love to show "out of control teens" and rarely would there be a "good news" story on teenagers. Reality TV tends to show just the spoilt brats ie:My sweet 16, Laguna Beach etc and movies often portray teens as Superficial and mean ie: Mean Girls etc Do you think that the media portrayal of teens is fair?

  1. No I don't think they do. You have to remember they have to make shows interesting enough to watch. I also think it is promoting negative behavior
  2. No, I don't. Being 18 its harder to get a job because companies see my age and think that I'll just goof off or not show up or other stupid things that I would never do. I can type almost 100 words a minute with a 98% percent accuracy and I can't get a job to save my life. I hate how these people buy into what the media says and shows. They think that every teenager is like that and that they can't trust us. Its so annoying, I'd love to be working but no one wants to hire a teenager because they think we don't give a crap and will just screw up or not pay attention. Not everyone of us is a alcoholic or drugie. I have been to one high school party in my life and I was the only sober one there, I think that proves something but not everyone wants to look at things like that they just want to group us all into one category.
  3. It's not fair, but I think most of the people watching things on TV realize they're only showing the worst teens. There are much more people UNLIKE those on My Sweet 16! If MTV didn't have shows with bratty teens that have issues, nobody would watch it.
