How do you get tv channels without a cable hookup?

In my room at college there is no cable hookup, but i have a tv and want to get tv channels (maybe not cable, but at least some main stations). A dish is not an option because there is no way for me to get a clear path to the sky. I've heard that there is some way to get stations over the internet or something using some kind of box, but havent been able to find anything more about it. Also, I want more than just watching shit on the internet mainly because i have a mac. Anyone got any suggestions?

1. try rabbit ears? larger populated areas broadcast signals over the air. In our town three also broadcast hdtv over the air.
2. You can use an antenna or try IPTV, tv over the internet. You need to have Att's U Verse service in your area, and you have to buy set top boxes to display the data on your mac or tv.
3. You just have to connect to broadband internet. And install a small software.
