Is television a furniture or an appliance?

I told a person that we can consider TELEVISION as a FURNITURE when I knew that it's more of an APPLIANCE! How can I justify that??? Please help.

  1. In the early days of TV the cabinets used to be made of wood. The carcase - which is the same terminology used in cabinetmaking - housed all of the electrical components of the TV. Some early TVs were quite elaborate furniture pieces, however nowadays most people would consider a television as an appliance.
  2. definitely an appliance..
  3. Neither. It is an addiction. :-)
  4. it is furiture..it does not provide any household convience like an appliance would.it doesnt wash your clothes cook your food or toast your toast..
  5. appliance: a piece of equipment, usually operated electrically, esp. for use in the home or for performance of domestic chores, as a refrigerator, washing machine, or toaster. furniture: the movable articles, as tables, chairs, desks or cabinets, required for use or ornament in a house, office, or the like. I think tv is an appliance.
  6. a television is more of an appliance today back in the early day's when i was coming up it could have been a peace of furniture. we had more floor model t.v's then. i hope i helped you with your question.
  7. When you think of furniture... couch - holds people dresser - holds clothing table - holds food TV - does not hold anything (other than your attention) When you think of an appliance... fridge - cools food & beverages toaster - toasts bread blender - mixes food washer - washes clothing TV - does not clean, blend, toast, grill or otherwise change the temperature, appearance or texture of anything (other than an analog or digital video signal) I would personally say that a TV is neither - it is electronics equipment, similar to a stereo, DVD player etc. Think about it this way - if you go to any website shopping for a TV, what section would you find it in...furniture? no. appliances? no. electronics? ya
