Are most TV commercials directed towards females because they are more susceptible?
Most commercials are directed towards females because advertisers know that they are more susceptible to suggestion than are males.
Public Comments
- no, its because more females are incharge of the household budget and do most of the shopping
- Yes and very weak minded , Every one knows that
- i've never really thought about it . but now i do its does seem that way how dare them think that we are the easy puplic
- i think its because they do most of the shopping
- Go to a catalog and you will see that 85%-90% is directed to women. Look at inserts in your newspapers..again mostly for women....At the checkouts in grocery stores..ever see any men's magazines there....nope
- Women tend to the shopping more than men..I hate shopping, it does my head in so do commercials so do the crap music that is being played on the radio these days.. I think I`m getting old.
- females are more susceptible towards certain products of course, just as more "male" adverts are directed at men. eg the snickers advert is definitely male-driven, whereas special k is definitely more female-driven. when marketing teams decide how to market their product they think about their target. so for example special k's target might be a 30 year old working woman. they then target that audience. you may have noticed more adverts are targetted at women because surveys show that women do more of the household shopping. they also take more pleasure in shopping, and do it at leisure, whereas men are more targetted in their shopping. women are no more susceptible than men to advertisements, but they do more of it
- Most commercials are directed towards females because it's females who mostly control a household budget. Females also spend more on cosmetics than males. It's easy to advertise cosmetics.
- Oh I hope I'm not as bad as Lucy; actually in real time I can get out a pretty good "no, turn around and leave," when I really want to. In truth there is truth to what you say about us; I just can't begin to explain it. The closest I can get is the Bowerbird and his nest of treasures. I'm sure you've seen them with their objects lining their nests so they can attract a female Bowerbird. http://www.learnaboutwildlife.com/images/bowerbird.jpg. You know to a female Bowerbird those are some nice trinkets.
- Adverts are directed to both. When they show on TV is related to the type of programme you're watching - if you are watching a female oriented programme, the adverts that follow and precede it will be directed to the TV audience. The opposite is true for male-oriented TV programmes. If you think adverts are directed towards women, you are obviously watching girlie TV.
- Depends on what it is. But you are completely wrong. Nothing is more susceptible to a man than half naked women. How many guys fall for that crap? That is half of advertising. How much more simple minded can you be?
- Good question. Clerk is right. Marketers always gear commercials towards the target audience. Toys, breakfast cereals, and other child related advertisements during Saturday morning cartoons. Imagine if they aired toy commercials during a big game. No one would buy them. Instead, things like Hair club for men, male sexual enhancement products, and beer commercials would air during sports events and other popular men's programming. You will likely see most commercials geared towards teens and women because women do most of the shopping. They're the ones who buy the grooming products for their men. They're the ones who buy the cereal for their children. And they're the ones who buy clothing for the family. Advertisers are also starting to recognize the buying power of baby boomers and are gearing more commercials towards them.
- No, it's because women make the bulk of the household shopping and financial decisions.
- Actually, most advertisements seem to be aimed at kids because THEY are most impressionable. And in turn, these ads put pressure on moms to buy those things. Mothers are usually the "shoppers" in the household. They're more likely to be the ones doing the grocery shopping, etc. Advertisers know that if they can catch a child's attention, that child will pressure mom to buy certain things. You know this is true if you've ever taken you child into a store with you. The kids have definite "opinions" on what kinds of cereal to buy, etc, etc...where do they get their ideas from? Ads they see on TV, of course.
- Probably, but it is the males that are made to look stupid in the adverts. There is one advert, where a women has just secured a loan on the phone, and the husband, aged about forty, starts throwing a football in the air in jubilation. I ask you. Childish immature thickoes.
- No, because women do about three quarters of consumer/household spending.
- Yes. I'm not going to deny it. Whatever society has created that is male specific or female specific will attract these sorts of weak minded people (This includes me personally as well.). I mean seriously...Who is going to buy skin products in order to look "younger"? Women right? Who is going to buy a HDTV system for football games and action movies? Men right? Who is going to play with Bratz dolls and those little pet dolls? Little girls correct? Who is going for the tonka trucks and Naruto games? Little boys right? So I stick with my answer. I believe that as far as appearance (since many commercials are about appearance), they appeal to women more because they KNOW that women will fall for their products. I think this is true for guys and ladies.
- I work in radio and when i went to the schools for it they said most target demographic is females 24 - 54 only because most of them have money to spend on what ever. and also most women end up making the purchases for the household!
- Being of a perverse nature, I do my best NOT to buy things I see advertised. I feel as if the adverts talk down to people and are an insult to our intelligence. I buy what I want, when I want and no advertisement is going to influence me.
- Women do most of the shopping? You know the ones aimed at men - they are full of half naked women because men think with their genitals!
- Oh I know. Men would never be susceptible to adverts would they? Except for the nivea for men advert of course. I bet you are in your bathroom every night cleansing and moisturising in the hope of finding one of us lovely feminists. mwah.lol x
