High Definition-Standard definition-what is the difference-is there quality variation in movie capture quality?

If there is variation in quality how much % of variation when compared both formats. I have Sony camcorder HDR SR 10 which has both he above versions.in high definition it is in AVCHD format as i purchased the handy cam in USA. I could not change from AVCHD to MPEG version so as to view capture in my Sony DVD player. Kindly advice

  1. There is a huge difference. High definition has a resolution of 1920x1080, while SD is just 640x480. If you want to get it down to a reasonable size for playback on a DVD the you need a video editing program that can handle AVCHD and convert it to a lower resolution MPEG. if you just want to get it on a DVD without editing then Nero Vision would be good for you, it can convert it to a format that can be played back on a DVD player(MPEG-2)
