Where can I get the right puppy run for my new pup?

My partner's parents dog had puppies 6 weeks ago and one was left without a home. We took pity and decided to give the pup a home. We are living in my mother's home at the minute and will not get our new house for 4 months so we need to keep him at my mum's with us. She is happy to have him but her territorial jack Russell is less than pleased. He is fine when we are all there but we do not trust him with the pup on his own. We have decided, as we all work full time not to risk leaving the pup on his own with the jack russell and the only other option is to leave him outside all day which we don't want to do either. We are looking to keep him in the living room (the other dog occupies the dining room during weekdays) whilst we're away and need a little temporary run to keep him away from the furniture and Television wires until we get the jack russel used to him. They get plenty of attention and exercise before and after work and all weekend. This arrangement would just be on work-days. He's a collie cross. My aunt who is also a dog-lover calls over to let my mother's other dog out for a walk every day and has agreed to check and feed the pup every hour. My mother also only works two days during the week and the of her work is at the weekends when we'll be at the house so its only for two days really. We're looking for more of a puppy play-pen rather than an outdoor run. Added note: We had no choice over the age to take him. I would love to have kept him with the mother until about 10 weeks old. We took him as he was going to be left with a pound.

  1. A run, in your living room? That doesn't make sense. Jefferspet.com has a very good selection you might be able to find what you're looking for there
  2. Awww! I'm glad the puppy found a home. Try looking in Pets At Home if there is one near to you, they might have them in there. Good luck! Sorry I cant be more help!
  3. Just how long do you intend to leave him on his own?? Puppies should not be left for more than an hour - they need feeding at least 4/5 times a day to start with and they need company! You don;t say what breed he is, either?
  4. Why do you have him at 6 weeks? These puppies should be with mother and litter mates until 8-12 weeks. Runs are for outside, you should not leave a puppy for longer than 3 hours and i'd suggest crate training - as long as the puppy is not left 9-5. EDIT: I wouldn't advise putting food and water in a crate with a 6 week old puppy this will just lead to housebreaking difficulties. The puppy should be on a feeding schedule.
  5. You could get your pup a nice wire crate rather than a run, this would confine and protect him from the JRT, and it would keep him from chewing on furniture, wires etc. make sure it's big enough for him to lay down in, you can put food and water in the crate with him. along with toys, so that he doesn't get too bored, and your aunt can let him outside to go potty when she comes over, (this will help with house training as well) You can get the wire crates at Petsmart, Petco, or most any pet store.
  6. you need a crate. you can get them at a pet supply store or even wal-mart. i suggest a pet supply store so you can get advice for the size you'll need. now, please tell me your partners parents (as well as yourself) will get your pretty little mutts altered. 6 million unwanted pets were euthanized last year. definition of ANIMAL SHELTER: a place where every time you breed or buy, another innocent animal dies.
