Will a high definition set top box pick up the new digital 15 channels coming to Australia?

I have a low definition set top box and am thinking of getting a high definition set top box to pick up the 15 new channels. I do not have a digital tv, it is a 2000 model. do I have to buy a new tv or will a h/d box do the job. thanks for your help.
