Do I need a High Definition TV or special software to play & edit footage from a High Definition Video Camera?
I'm planning to buy a High Definition Video Camera such as the Sony HDR-SR11 or Panasonic HDC-HS1000. Do I need a High Definition compatible Television to watch the footage? Do I need special software to edit the footage on my PC? Any recommendations? I was looking at 'Corel Video Studio' Your help is appreciated, thank you.

- Hard drive based camcorders suffer from well known high altitude and vibration issues (the hard drive heads park to protect the hard drive platters) and have extra steps for archive file production. As well, they can have data recovery issues in the event of catastrophic failure of the camcorder. Flash drive and miniDV tape based camcorders do not share these issues. Suggest dropping HDD (and DVD) based consumer camcorders from your short list. ALL camcorders can connect to a TV using composite (Yellow-video; Red-right audio; White-left audio) AV connections. This is analog video. An HDTV is not required. Most consumer hard drive (and flash memory) camcorders that capture high definition video capture to AVCHD format. These are MTS or MT2S file formats. Before you buy the camcorder, verify from the video editing manufacturer that the video editor you plan to use can deal with AVCHD for editing AND can specifically deal with the camcorder you selected.
