Can I watch HDTV on my high definition tv without a set top box?

I have an LG LCD HD TV and I'm wondering if I can watch free to air high definition channels on it. I haven't got a high definition set top box, but is there some way to hook it up to a digital antenna? Can someone please help me?

  1. Yes, you can either buy an HD antenna, OR if your tv has a built-in QAM tuner, you can receive OTA HD channels via basic cable. I have basic cable and I get all my local channels in HD. With my tv(a 32'' Vizio), the first time I turned it on, it automatically scanned for all the channels I can receive. And now, I get over twice the channels I got with my old tube tv. I get channels that I didn't even know existed :D
  2. Yes, you can get local digital channels over the air because your TV probably has an ATSC tuner if you bought it in the last few years. Some of the very first HD sets did not include built-in ATSC tuners, but that was 4+ years ago. There is no such thing as a "digital antenna" despite what might appear on consumer packaging. Antennas are antennas, and if you have one already, there is no need to buy a new one.
