How does my Sony Bravia get TV Guide listings?
I am looking for a more technical answer here. Here is some additional information that may help you understand how the TV does it's thing. - Model number: KDL-40W4100 - I have to turn off the TV in order for it to get new listings - Whatever communication platform it uses, it is 2-way communication, because I had to tell the TV my zip code so it could search possible TV listings

- The FCC mandates the broadcasting of a minimum amount of information along with all digital broadcasts. This information is carried within a protocol known as Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP). PSIP has the ability to provide all the information necessary to generate an Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) within the Converter Box or HDTV. Sony's TV Guide does NOT require a subscription fee, phone line or Internet access for updates to the EPG. It simply receives this information from the digital broadcasts received by the TV (apparently while the TV is not in use). The communication is NOT 2 way. HDTVs do not include transmitters. Additional Details: The minimum information includes the digital channel number, sub-channel number and station call letters. Full PSIP information in support of Electronic Program Guides(EPG) is voluntary and may not be supported in all areas nor will every broadcaster in a geographical area necessarily provide this information. I expect that those with SONY 2008 models V, W, Z, XBR6, XBR7 & XBR8 will be disappointed with the incomplete EPG information provided by your local broadcasters.
