Why can't I capture high definition?
I have the Sony HDR-FX1 high-def camcorder and use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for my capture and editing application. I have also used a little of Sony Vegas 6. Neither application will recognize my camera as being high-definition. I use high-def tapes to record my footage on and when I use normal MiniDV tapes to capture, everything works just fine. I just can't capture high-def stuff. When attempt to use Adobe, I use the 1080i settings at 30fps, but it will say my camera is offline when the Firewire cable is firmly plugged into both the camera and computer. Any suggestions?

- There should be a setting on the camera to tell it what type of firewire signal to output (sony call firewire "i-link") This should be set to HDV and not DV or DV/NTSC. Also, it's possible that you have to create a new project in the HDV format (this is true for Final Cut Pro), in order for Premiere to recognize the camcorder in HDV mode. In Final Cut Pro, I change the project settings to HDV 1080i -30fps (or whatever I need) then open a new project. Once the settings have been changed, it will look for an HDV video source instead of a regular DV source. Hope this helps.
