Can I record HDTV straight from my High Definition Television to my PC?

I was wondering if there is any way I can send an output signal from my HDTV to my PC, record it, and play it back on my TV. Alternatively I could buy a Hard Drive Recorder, but I figure if I already have a computer with a hard drive I could just use that. I know I can record HDTV on the PC using a TV tuner card, but it seems unnecessary seeing as the HDTV is already generating the signal and doing all the dirty work that the card would do. I just don't know how to get the signal from the HDTV to the PC so I can record it with a recording program. I figure you should be able to have the HDTV as an input to the PC just like you can input and record off of a video camera. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful. Thanks

  1. There are TVs that have a TV output, but even then it is only standard def. So, if you want to record HD TV on your PC, you do need a TV tuner.
