Do you consider the US not showing the reality of war on tv to be propoganda?

In other countries when you watch news footage of a war you see an actual war with peoples arms getting blown off, babies screaming, raping etc. American tv shows healthy young men tosing a football around and occaisonally some tracer fire at night. Do you consider this propoganda?

  1. No
  2. Look back at Vietnam. That is why the US no longer shows the reality of war. Moral for the war would wither and die.
  3. I don't consider the lack of information to be misinformation, But it does not provide an accurate picture of war. That said, US (and other first world) citizens that want to know, have the resources available to them to find out. The many parts of the US have a great deal of detachment for how things get done. We eat more red meat than anyone, but how many people have actually seen a cow get killed and processed? Originally war is not shown out of respect for the dead, but some emphasis on who is paying the price for war (literally and figuratively) would be very helpful.
  4. The news organizations can show what they shoot. But 1 roadside bomb in a country the size of Texas is hard to catch. But they frequently show the aftermath, and now, with the families authorizations, show the caskets at Dover.
  5. They do it for the benefit of the country. Showing the reality of the war can seriously deprive people of thier morale. However, they should, on request, file someone in on the details. They CANNOT, repeat what is said. (my opinion)
  6. You got your press pools... What are you complain' about?!?!??!
  7. No. People do not want to watch extreme violence on tv. that's not propaganda. That would be like saying anew story about rape that does not show raping is propaganda. I would like to know which countries show the raping and babies.
  8. we must hide the truth, fox was hardcore about even a flag draped coffin, i watch it all but all so democracy now which does a bit better.
  9. It's more of a privacy thing, you know out of respect to the families of soldiers who get killed in action. Seriously, how would you feel if you see one of your family members killed on TV?
  10. the dan rather/ walter cronkite/viet-era style journalism..seemed to have done the trick as far as getting people to come to their senses about the true cost of war. i don't understand why its no less necessary
  11. Duh. Americans are sheep. If we see coffins and real dead Americans, we might get upset and ask questions. If we don't, then we just go shopping and ignore it all. Ignorance truly is bliss and they know it. Wave that flag!
  12. Unlike a great many other things, they learnt what happens whhen you do that. Look up the Vietnam War
  13. Nope, because they do not show such graphic violence on American TV at any time. Not for accidents, suicides, car wrecks etc.
