How does one audition for TV commercials?

I would like to know where most major TV commercials are produced and how someone would audition for those. I see some of the same people in a variety of commercials and i would like to know how that is done. If anyone has experience or knowledge of which city is best for this and the process of auditioning, I would appreciate it!

  1. These people are either actors or models. They have agents who send them on castings in which they audition to try to book (get) the job. LA is obviously a big market for commercials, but surprisingly so is Chicago and Minneapolis. Submit your headshot and resume to agencies in your area.
  2. Turn your tv camera on and type in this code (it is case sensitive) VBI55-88FRD-99-OP
  3. Some commercials are cast by posting on an on-line casting service, like Actor's Access. Others you'd only hear about if you have an agent. If you don't have any acting experience then start by taking classes and trying to get acting experience in your town. You will need to have a very solid resume before you think about moving across the country. The biggest markets for acting are Los Angeles and New York, but there is work in other regions. Ask your local drama teachers and other actors you meet in your local productions for the best sources of work in your local area. In addition to TV commercials you may be able to get cast in student films, community theatre productions, and music videos. Good luck.
