I hate reality TV, I think it is destroying the youth of America. Do you?

I am 18 years old and all the people I was around in HS seem to care nothing about reality. You ask them anything about anything political, or about any current events, or the news paper it is third world to them. It is all about celebrity gossip, and terrible reality tv shows. What cell phones they have, or what clothes they wear. No skills or trades are being learned by them. A little drama is ok, but not every single day! Am I the only one who thinks the youth of America knows very little about the world around them.?

  1. Yes, most youths do not care about what is going on in the world, only their world. Stay ahead of your peers, get your education, and you will be one of the great leaders of our society in the future, not just one of the "sheep."
  2. I totaly agree with u.........................this channel should be closed
  3. i agree and i feel its irresponsible of the stations to broadcast that stuff. they cant find better content to offer? i dont think its good for any age but especially for developing minds. tks for submitting that question
  4. Although I dislike reality TV as well, I beg to differ about people not caring about 'reality.' Firstly, you're only speaking from your high school experiences. Your experiences don't describe how a majority of people feel about the world. Also, experiences aren't enough to conclude that, because the high schoolers in your area didn't care about 'reality,' that reality TV is actually destroying American youth. In fact, reality TV and celebrity gossip as been around for while, and people still cared about politics and current events. However, simply because a few people in you school didn't care doesn't mean the entire world is affected. Reality shows and celebrity gossip is actually enjoyed by people that, well, enjoy celebrities. See, the people that care about politics are the people that vote, tune into news shows like CNN, read the paper, and discuss politics all night long, and the people that like celebrities enjoy entertainment. Just as kids enjoy cartoons, teenagers enjoy gossip and teenage TV shows, the average 'mature' adult enjoys politics. It seems like you were too busy caring about what's 'important' that you forgot to note CNN and E! are two completely different channels with completely different fanbases. Also, people get criticized often for their looks, so I don't blame people for wiping out a stylish outfit. That doesn't mean they can't be political, nonetheless, politics isn't their interest. What's so good about being political and keeping up with current events anyway? I mean, let the people who actually care . . . well, care about politics. If a recession is happening in our country, let the people that keep up with politics deal with it. That's like saying 'people should pick astrophysics in college because it's better than business classes.' If people enjoy TV and superstars, the world isn't coming to an end.
  5. So now you just want to do away with the first amendment? How about parental control, that would work. The parents just turn it off!. I think lack of morales and values are destroying America's youth not t.v.
