Why do Filipino girls want to have white skin?

I often see on TV commercials that they are promoting white skin than encouraging to enhance the beauty of having brown skin. In reality brown skin is better than white.

2. I don't know. I have white skin, but I think brown is much more attractive.
3. i know what you mean. i work in skin care and i always get filipino, latino and middle eastern women who ask about skin lightening products, and they usually buy foundation and powder that is a few shades lighter than their skin colors. i believe this is because in their culture, it is more attractive to have lighter skin.
4. Many Asian girls prefer to have white, clear, glowing skin. It's just what's thought of as beautiful. Just like many girls prefer to tan or fake-tan, because they think it looks good. I'm a Japanese-American, and I like to be in the middle. Healthy color, not pale, not orange.
5. I have been to China twice, and all of the women there cover their skin completely (arm length gloves, umbrellas in the sun, masks on their face when riding a bike or scooter). I asked my friend why they do that and she said that women there believe porcelain skin is better because ages ago people who had to work out in the sun all day (the lower, working class) got tan. Nobility and upper class ladies did not have to work in the sun and thus remained pale. Pale skin was a sign of class. Nowdays of course getting out in the sun isn't considered lower class, but the belief that pale skin is more beautiful still lingers. People here in america spend large amounts of time, money and even damage their skin and give themselves cancer trying to get tan. I think everyone should just try to be happy with the skin color they have naturally, but the world just doesn't work that way unfortunately.
6. I'm from Guam and I believe that the majority of us would prefer lighter skin is because we think it's prettier. I myself have a complexion that I'd wish were lighter. I've found that the women with lighter skin tend to get better jobs and more attention. But this is just my personal opinion.

8. Because they have been brainwashed to think that "light is right"! They have been brainwashed to think that lighter is prettier/richer/more noble. Stop trying to become the next Michael Jackson, intelligence and those confident of how they were made by god and their parents are ones that are real pretty. Look at people of polynesian background, they are tan and look way better than those pale skin, look like they were kept in a closet all their life due to lack of skin color, type asians. YUCK!
9. I don't believe brown skin is better than white, I think all skin color is beautiful. All women should love the skin their in and enhance it with makeup to make them feel more confident.
