Latest Television

With all the reality tv that is now out?

Do you even take the time to come home and watch tv any more? For me I only watch the news and that's about it unless I am catching a cartoon with my children. Do you think that reality tv is taking the good out of what tv use to be? Why or why not?

  1. I don't watch one bit of television because I have no cable, so my mom downloads some of the shows I watch.. :) And plus television is a waste of time I think. It's so time consuming, its like pringles once you pop you cant stop.
  2. Watching television now is a waste of time. I mean, just imagine sitting there watching a bunch of rich people live their everyday lives....yay congratulations..they're rich!! But I got my own life to live..so I really don't need to watch them live theirs
  3. Self-tapping screws - don't. Self-starting lawn mowers - don't. Self-funding retirees - can't (unless they've got millions). Reality TV - isn't. I find it the most boring and meaningless rubbish that anyone has ever put on. I'd rather watch Rocky and Bullwinkel re-runs. Nobody seriously believes that people are 'surviving' on a desert island, with a camera crew standing by, a doctor, a nurse, a helicopter, and so on. The only interest is in building up the 'differences' and personality traits of the 'players' , their sneakiness, treachery, and anything-goes-to-win appraoch, for best effect. It's like David Letterman interviewing an Easter Island Statue - the only way to get a response is to somehow bring it to life, so you artificially enhance it. Perfect allegory of feminism, don't you think?
  4. yes. telivision is supposed to be a bit of an escape, if you will. but it's lost its charm. scripted things are good, they show actual imagination and creativity. anyone remember friends? hello? we used to have GOOD TELIVISION! i'm really glad you posted this question, because i could rant for hours about how boring and useless the kardashians are. there are a few major kinda of reality tv: 1) the creep-on-rich-people -doing-nothing kind. i.e., the kardashians. lets all watch rich people buy dogs and wash the dishes and spend virtually every day in their pajamas. 2) the stick-ten-random-young -sex-crazed-people -in-a-house-together-and-see -what-happens type. jersey shore, real world... why would anyone ever want to watch these things? how do they not all have STD's? and their trashiness is just bemusing. i mean really, has anyone noticed that the jersey shore people are all orange? with the exception of the fragments of fabric that they call "clothes" 3) the how-about-we-script -something-that's -not-even-well-written -or-interesting-for -that-matter-and -pretend-its-real version of "television. and of course, i'm talking about the hills. these kids are fresh out of high school and conveniently have all found incredibly high-paying jobs in fashion magazines that are in the same place, so the drama can continue. 4) the infamous set-multiple-tasks -for-people-to-do-so -we-can-eliminate-them -from-this-worthless-show kind. paris hilton's my new bff, anyone? admittedly, there are some good shows out there that you actually LEARN something from that follow this pattern: the apprentice, for instance, is an example of this. but paris hilton's my new bff is maybe the lowest quality television program ever to air. i mean that girl is famous for NOTHING. and when she does finally whittle down these oh-so-charming candidates, and finds her "true bff(!)" i think it rather defies the purpose of friendship to have one party sitting on a throne and telling the other what to do. doesn't scream "balanced relationship" to me. maybe i'm just a complainer, but i really, really can't stand it when our society's idea of the epitome of entertainment is witnessing something that could very well happen in our own home.
  5. There's plenty of good scripted TV, you just have to look for it. I see what gets good buzz on the internet and what the critics like and check it out - I often find myself liking it.
  6. I don't watch reality t.v, or t.v at all. Its usually on in the background of my day when I'm home, but other than that not much. When I do watch it, then its usually something on Discovery, Animal Planet or the History channel...
  7. The only show I watch during the day is wife swap....it's amusing. I have tivo so I record all my shows and at night after I get the kids off to bed and come on here for a bit I relax and watch my shows. I don't watch reality tv oh and I hate the news. Out of all the shows that are on right now it is the news that will not allow my children to watch. Back in the day news use to be real news with real facts now you have these news casters that think they can act and tell jokes and like we care. All the news reports is negative or completely irrelevant.
