is there a device that allows a tv to mimic high definition using a set top box?

i bought me a new T.V. and i was wondering if there is something that i can connect to it to simulate high definition, i am asking because xbox 360 and playstation 3 don't show words correctly on older crt televisions and i can't afford a hdtv atm but just wondering. please can you provide links to these devices if they exist and i am not talking about converter boxes they don't allow input connections.

1. It is not that you need something that can simulate HD. Your consoles are HD already, it is just that your CRT TV does not have enough pixels to display all the incoming data correctly. It is like connecting an LP to surround sound, it will still be crappy sound. I do not have Xbox or PlayStation, but try and see if toy have video out options on your consoles and take it down to lowest resolution possible and work your way up until you get the best possible results.
